Long Beach Island, NJ
Sitting off the coast of New Jersey, Long Beach Island is a dream-come-true for beach lovers. In the summer its miles of white beaches are packed with vacationers looking for sunshine and a sweet-summer tan. The 18 mile island is never more than a half a mile wide, ensuring that all of its residents are next to at least one beach. With the beaches comes lots of fun outdoor activities. From parasailing to miniature golf, there is something for everyone.
The Island has a wide range of non-beach activities and interesting landmarks. For instance, did you know that one of the island lighthouses starred in the movie The Perfect Storm? If you don’t care for saltwater and waves, you will be happy to know that a water park can be found on the island, conveniently located right next to an amusement park.
Off season, Long Beach Island is the home of the LBI Chowderfest, an annual clam chowder competition. Every fall is celebrated with two days of nothing but chowder eating, reinvigorating the tourist industry in the off-season. If you can’t make it to Chowderfest, restaurants that have competed and won awards for their chowder serve it year around in their establishments.
All in all, Long Beach Island is a well-rounded tourist stop, well suited for wholesome family fun.
